Phantasmal Flames Price Snapshot: Three Months Post-Launch

Both headline Mega Charizard X ex cards were opening in the $726-850 range at launch, and most SIRs were clearing $150-300. Those numbers have dropped hard. What you're seeing now is where the market actually lands once the launch hype dies down.

10. Dawn - $7.61 (~-89% since launch)

Dawn Special Illustration Rare #118 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #118/094

  • Rarity: Super Rare

A cozy lifestyle SR that's basically at the floor of what extended-number trainers would go for in this set. It was trading around $60-80 at launch and has since dropped to $7.61. If you're filling out a master set, this one's easy right now.

9. Piplup - $11.43 (~-71% since launch)

Piplup Illustration Rare #098 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #098/094

  • Rarity: Illustration Rare

The snow cave Piplup is one of those cards that just works due to its cozy style. Launched somewhere in the $30-50 range and has settled to $11.43. Lifestyle collectors keep this one moving regardless of where the broader market goes.

8. Meowth - $14.39 (-86% since launch)

Meowth Illustration Rare #106 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #106/094

  • Rarity: Illustration Rare

Uninori's watercolor Meowth sprawled across a tree branch is the kind of card that doesn't need a flashy background to hold attention. Launched at $80-120 and has settled to $14.39. The art is specific enough that it keeps finding buyers.

7. Mega Lopunny ex - $22.51 (-90% since launch)

Mega Lopunny ex Special Art Rare #128 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #128/094

  • Rarity: Special Illustration Rare

Down about 90% from its $180-250 launch range to $22.51. It's been sitting at this level since January without much movement. Still a playable card which gives it some floor support the others on this list don't have.

6. Rotom ex - $22.91 (-85% since launch)

Rotom ex Special Art Rare #126 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #126/094

  • Rarity: Special Illustration Rare

Every Rotom form crammed into one card, down 85% from the $120-180 launch range to $22.91. The Multi Adapter ability actually sees competitive play, which helps keep a floor under this one that the rest of the SIRs at this price point can't claim.

5. Mega Sharpedo ex - $29.60 (-89% since launch)

Mega Sharpedo ex Special Art Rare #127 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #127/094

  • Rarity: Special Illustration Rare

This was the third-most-valuable card at launch, clearing $250-300 in Week 1. Now it's at $29.60, down 89%. nagimiso's art on this one is jaw-dropping with deep blues and magentas with Sharpedo bursting through the frame at full speed. If you slept on it at release, this is a much better entry point.

4. Dawn - $33.47 (-82% since launch)

Dawn Special Illustration Rare #129 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #129/094

  • Rarity: Special Illustration Rare

Second Dawn on this list (the other one's back at #10). This is the bicycle one with mountain pass, autumn foliage, the full lifestyle treatment. Launched at $180-200 and has dropped to $33.47, down 82%. Still the most expensive trainer card in the set.

3. Mega Charizard X ex - $33.93 (~-62% since launch)

Mega Charizard X ex Ultra Rare #109 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #109/094

  • Rarity: Ultra Rare

Same illustrator as the Gold Mega Hyper Rare below, completely different vibe, this one goes full neon with electric magentas and greens. At $33.93 it's the most attainable of the three Charizard entries on this list and the realistic option if you want the a colorful Charizard card without spending $400+.

2. Mega Charizard X ex - $387.91 (-51% since launch)

Mega Charizard X ex Gold Hyper Rare #130 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #130/094

  • Rarity: Mega Hyper Rare

takuyoa's gold treatment on Mega Charizard X ex launched at roughly the same price as the SIR above, around $726-840 in Week 1, but has dropped harder, sitting at $387.91 today, down about 51%. The market has pretty clearly decided it prefers the painted SIR over the gold version.

1. Mega Charizard X ex - $598.18 (-24% since launch)

Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare #125 – Phantasmal Flames
  • Set: Phantasmal Flames

  • Card Number: #125/094

  • Rarity: Special Illustration Rare

danciao's Mega Charizard X ex is the undisputed chase card of this set and it hasn't really been close. Launched between $732-850 and has only dropped about 24% to $598.18 which is the shallowest correction of anything on this list by a wide margin. Everything else got cut 50-90% and this card is still sitting near $600. That tells you everything you need to know about where collector demand lives in this set.

Final Thoughts

Phantasmal Flames came in hot and the data has been pretty clear about what actually held. The danciao Charizard SIR is sitting at over 75% of its launch price while almost everything around it dropped 80-90%. That's not typical. The SIRs that were going $150-300 at launch have all landed in the $22-34 range now, still solid for non-Charizard cards, but a long way from those opening numbers. The question going into the next Mega Evolution set is whether anything else can get close to the Charizard ceiling, or if we're just going to keep writing that same card at the top of every list. Right now the Mega Gengar ex SIR from Ascended Heroes is holding strong, but with the set just releasing, we'll see where it goes.
