Series: Scarlet & Violet
Shrouded Fable Release Date: August 23, 2024
Set Abbreviation: SFA
Honorable Mention: Dusclops (Illustration Rare) – $20.75

Card Number: #069/064
Rarity: Illustration Rare
Landing at what would be the number 11 spot, the Dusclops Illustration Rare is one of three evolution-story cards, using a mixture of eerie and haunting tones with disarming and, quite frankly, adorable artwork from illustrator James Turner, who is known for designing Shadow Lugia from Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
10. Pecharunt ex (Hyper Rare) – $21.88

Card Number: #095/064
Rarity: Hyper Rare
In an unusual twist fitting for Shrouded Fable, the Hyper Rare variant of Pecharunt ex has officially surpassed the Special Illustration Rare variant in value. The playability of Pecharunt shines here, with a low-energy-cost attack offering high potential output and an ability that enables constant rotation.
9. Munkidori (Illustration Rare) – $25.70

Card Number: #072/064
Rarity: Illustration Rare
A prime example of how competitive play and actual artwork drive value, the Illustration Rare variant of Munkidori has outpaced its ex Special Illustration Rare counterpart in terms of value. The artwork is clean, showing Munkidori in his natural habitat, making it a nice art piece for collectors, while also providing a much stronger play through its ability.
8. Basic Metal Energy (Hyper Rare)– $27.24

Card Number: #099/64
Rarity: Hyper Rare
Sometimes all you need is a Hyper Rare Energy to bling out your deck a little. Shrouded Fable produced two different Hyper Rare Energy cards that are simple resources with a lot of flair. With Gholdengo ex having a huge presence at Pokémon Worlds this year, why wouldn’t you add some shine to your deck on the biggest stage in Pokémon?
7. Duskull (Illustration Rare) – $28.74

Card Number: #068/064
Rarity: Illustration Rare
Another entry in the evolution line, we have Duskull. It follows a similar vibe to Dusclops from earlier in the list, but this time it gives off a much more adorable feeling as it floats under a streetlight. Once again, James Turner tied the art of this line together very well.
6. Cassiopeia (Special Illustration Rare) – $29.25

Card Number: #094/064
Rarity: Special Illustration Rare
Our first and only Supporter cards on the list is Cassiopeia, the Team Star boss. The artwork for this card was a major hit upon release due to the cybernetic aesthetic and blue and pink hues surrounding Penny... err Cassiopeia.
5. Houndoom (Illustration Rare) – $32.78

Card Number: #066/064
Rarity: Illustration Rare
The Houndoom Illustration Rare exudes aura in its truest sense. The art features a tinge of red in a sea of black, white, and gray. A pack of wild Houndoom runs through the forest with conviction and purpose. Plus, Houndoom has been a fan favorite for years, making it no surprise to see it crack the top five in Shrouded Fable.
4. Persian (Illustration Rare) – $40.15

Card Number: #078/064
Rarity: Illustration Rare
Where Houndoom exuded ferocity, Persian matches it with a calm yet powerful demeanor. Team Rocket’s Giovanni’s most loyal subject gazes from a lush penthouse, reminiscent of the setting we saw in Pokémon 151: Giovanni’s Charisma.
3. Basic Darkness Energy (Hyper Rare) – $42.05

Card Number: #098/064
Rarity: Hyper Rare
It’s been a long time, if ever, since we’ve seen a Basic Energy card make its way into the top three most valuable cards in a set. Where the Basic Metal Energy saw demand due to Gholdengo ex, the Basic Darkness Energy receives the same lift from Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, as well as Pecharunt and the Loyal Three, the mascots of the entire set, all of which are Dark-type cards.
2. Fezendipiti ex (Special Illustration Rare) – $41.80

Card Number: #092/064
Rarity: Special Illustration Rare
Surprisingly enough, Fezendipiti ex has established itself as the only Pokémon ex to land in the top ten most valuable cards of Shrouded Fable. With a zoomed-in and elegant design, this card benefits from stylish artwork as well as a fairly strong move that allows you to target any Pokémon, not just the Active one.
1. Earthen Vessel (Hyper Rare) – $46.65

Card Number: #096/064
Rarity: Hyper Rare
While it's incredibly rare to most to see an item card taking the top spot in terms of value, one thing to keep in mind is just how many competitive decks run multiple Earthen Vessels. Now yes, the standard version plays the same, but when you're getting ready to win it all, why wouldn't you have your cards be the prettiest they can be!

Final Thoughts
Shrouded Fable is, for many, probably the least exciting set in the entire Scarlet & Violet era. But when you take into account the affordability of many of its hits, its very small card list (only 99 total cards), and the utility of those hits in play, it might just go down as the most underrated set in years.
