Speaking of Kanto favorites, one of the all-time favorite trainers makes her return to the TCG, and playability plays a factor into Misty's Vitality spot on this list along with the nostalgia. Pulling four water energy cards and immediately attaching them to a Pokémon is a huge buff.
7. Gladion's Final Battle (Special Illustration Rare) – $31.34

The first Special Illustration Rare on our list goes to Gladion's Final Battle. If your deck doesn't have a rule box, this can be a real ace in the hole. The artwork also pops with Gladion looking at the player with a "It's time to do this!" attitude. Players and collectors alike are still chasing this one.
6. Gwynn (Secret Illustration Rare) – $40.53

Keeping the Trainer train rolling, we have the Gwynn Special Illustration Rare. This card gives players the ability to discard up to two Pokémon without a rule box to draw up to six. That can be a huge swing if you have the cards to sacrifice. This card being so far up the list beating out Pokémon IRs and more shows this set's focus on playability, which seems to be the trend for the Mega Evolution Era.
5. Mega Chandelure ex (Special Illustration Rare) — $49.32

Now we're getting into the meat and potatoes of the top chase cards for Pitch Black with the number five spot being taken by Mega Chandelure ex. A haunting illustration from REND brings an almost realistic look of the newer Mega Evolved Pokémon. Combine that with it's damage scaling abilities, and it just makes sense that this card cracks the top five.
4. Mega Zeraora ex (Special Illustration Rare) — $64.85

Mega Zeraora is one of the newer Mega Pokemon introduced the Pokemon Legends: Z-A. It's also one of the better Mega Evolution designs we've seen with it's black lightning look. This card shows that in striking colorful detail from GIDORA.

Despite not being the top chase card in the set, Morpeko ex has been celebrated by a huge portion of the fan-base. There seems to be more excitement around this card when it's pulled on social media than the top chases. The colors are incredible, Morpeko is a fan-favorite, and the viciousness of the card really make it shine... plus it has the apple cores blended into the design.
2. Mega Darkrai ex (Mega Hyper Rare) — $178.35

Rarity: Mega Hyper Rare
As has been the case for almost every set in the Mega Evolution era, the number two spot is taken by the Mega Hyper Rare of the set mascot. Mega Darkrai ex also provides some serious competitive edge with Dusk Raid and Abyss Eye, but it's incredibly tough for the gold cards to overtake the SIRs as time goes on and people see somewhat repetitive aesthetics with these cards despite their prestige appearance and incredibly difficult pull rates.

There is something special about the AKIRA EGAWA illustrated Mega Darkrai ex. The aesthetic somewhat matches the vibe of the Crown Zenith Giratina VSTAR to the point where fans have matched Darkrai to Giratina in an almost "Upside Down" reflection. Despite not many being a huge fan of Mega Darkrai as a Pokemon, it's wild what rock-solid artwork can do for a card.

Final Thoughts
Pitch Black is another example of a smaller set having it's two to three mega hits.(No pun intended) Competitive-focused seems to really be the ongoing vibe of the Mega Evolution era. That doesn't negate the fact that incredibly illustrated cards still drive collectors to also keep ripping.
